🤓 2 Big Stories About AI
1. YouTube teases new AI tools for creators.
YouTube's new CEO, Neal Mohan, has teased upcoming features including generative AI tools for content creators.
The 🥩 of it:
👨💼 Neal Mohan, the new head of YouTube, outlined his key priorities and teased some upcoming features for the media platform in his first address to the community since stepping up to the role last month.
🎬 YouTube is developing generative AI tools for content creators that will allow creators to expand their storytelling and raise their production value. The new generative AI tools are expected to be rolled out in the coming months, along with undisclosed protections to ensure the technology is being used responsibly.
📹 YouTube will also roll out a creation feature that allows users to record a Short in a side-by-side layout beside an existing YouTube video or Short, similar to TikTok’s Duet feature.
👩💻 Mohan promised to continue to put creators first, and he recognized the importance of responsible stewardship for AI-generated content.
💼 Mohan takes over as the new CEO of YouTube at a tumultuous time. The platform has faced criticisms for its crackdown on swearing and ad revenue plummeted by 8% YoY during the holiday quarter.
2. Microsoft brings its new AI-powered Bing to the Windows 11 taskbar.
Microsoft is releasing a big update to Windows 11 this week that adds the company’s new AI-powered Bing search to the taskbar.
The 🥩 of it:
💻 Microsoft is releasing a new Windows 11 update that includes Bing search integration in the taskbar and a Bing chat feature.
💬 The Bing chat feature is a surprise addition that Microsoft has not tested with Windows Insiders.
🌎 More than a million people are now testing the new Bing preview in 169 countries.
📱 Microsoft is also releasing a preview of its Phone Link app for iOS, which includes access to send and receive messages, calls, and notifications. Microsoft is also getting ready to demo its ChatGPT-like AI in Office apps soon.
📅 These new Windows 11 features are available now through manual update, but will be broadly rolled out in the March 2023 security update release on March 14th.
It looks like Microsoft is making it clear that AI is their future, just like how Google did the same a few years ago.
